Sinkholes

Pasco County Sinkhole

GEC was contacted by the disaster recovery firm to provide urgent geotechnical engineering input to support their efforts in the aftermath of the Pasco County Sinkhole. The sinkhole was 170 feet in diameter and 40 feet deep. The sinkhole had swallowed two homes including a car, boat, motorcycle and two jet skis. The feature continued to grow in size over several days. GEC mapped the bottom of the sinkhole to evaluate the stability of the side slopes and the depth of the depression and conducted Cone Penetrometer Test (CPT) soundings adjacent to the sinkhole to assess the stability of the proposed equipment foundation areas.
